What is a PPO health insurance plan?

With a PPO Health Insurance Plan or "Preferred Provider Organization" you have a list of preferred providers you see within the network of your PPO health insurance plan. This network is typically chosen by the health insurance company administering the plan and there are a variety of different PPO networks available in the country. With a PPO health insurance plan you do not have to go to the doctors in the network but the health insurance company will typically pay more if you do. For example, a typical co insurance on a health insurance plan may be 80/20 to $5,000 if you go to a hospital inside the network. Should you go to a hospital outside of the PPO health insurance network that percentage may drop to 60/40 to $10,000. Another example on this type of plan would be if you had a Doctors office co pay on your plan where you pay for example, $25 in the network. If you go out of the network you may have to pay the full amount of the doctors office visit. As you can see, it defiantly would be to your benefit to use the providers inside the network and many times you'll find that many of the PPO networks have great coverage. When getting a quote from Insurancerx.com you can actually check to see if your doctor or hospital is in the plan before you apply.

With PPO Health Insurance programs you typically have an annual deductible before the insurance company starts covering expenses unless you have a doctors office co pay or prescription drug card se up on a different schedule. Knowledge is power with all different types of PPO health insurance plans and we hope to educate and inform you in as many ways as possible.
