How fast can I get Individual
Health Insurance Coverage?
Well, all companies are different and generally speaking with
health insurance coverage and there is no
hard and fast rule but we'll try to give you some sort of idea.
Typically after you apply your application is forwarded to the health
insurance company. When it arrives it's reviewed to make sure the
application is filled out properly and premium payment is received.
Then the application is forwarded to underwriting for health
insurance coverage and can take as
little as two weeks from the time you had applied assuming it is a
"clean" application. When we say "clean" we mean no previous health
history which may make the underwriter question issuing the
application immediately. If there are any red flags at all or
something an underwriter may question two things may occur. They may
either call you and ask to clarify a question or order your medical
records from the physician you put on the application. If medical
records are ordered this could really hold up approval time. If
medical records are ordered approval could take four to seven weeks
depending on how long it takes for your doctors office to accommodate
the request of the insurance company. Many times you can speed this
process up by calling your doctors office and asking them to expedite
the request. So, if your relatively healthy about two weeks and if
it's questionable it could take four to seven weeks.
