What is an "All Provider Health Insurance" or Traditional Indemnity Health Insurance Plan?

As stated in earlier articles, a plan that once was very common and uncomplicated is the Traditional Indemnity Plan or as many call it the "All Provider Health Insurance" plan. This type of plan used to be all you needed but now days it's so very expensive it's vastly becoming the minority in health insurance plan selection today. One of the big things that makes the "All Provider Health Insurance" so attractive to a wide variety of consumers is the freedom associated with it. With a Traditional Indemnity Plan you are free to typically choose any doctor, any hospital, anywhere. This is particularly attractive to consumers who can't stand getting referrals or having to go to doctors or hospitals outside of their network.

Naturally with freedom of choice there comes a price. And, this price comes in the form of a lot of money. Typically speaking the all provider health insurance plan is very, very expensive. And, a lot of consumers will find themselves filling out more paperwork than with the usual HMO or PPO health plans because the facilities are not part of any network. So, in some cases the insured will have to submit the claims themselves.

All Provider Health Insurance Plans are probably among to simplest to understand because of the basic concept associated with it. It's much simpler to understand if you know you can go to any doctor without having to worry if "Dr. Jones" is in the plan or not....or having to wait for a referral from your primary care doctor should you need it. Simply go to whomever you want. Whenever you want.
